From 1st October 2006 The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the Responsible Person of any non domestic premises to carry out a fire risk assessment (FRA), including measures to reduce or eliminate the risk of fire, and identify persons at risk.

With all types of risk assessments, a FRA should be reviewed either after any fire related incidents, significant change within the building, change to activities which take place or after a reasonable period of time.

When did your business last have a fire risk assessment carried out?

Some businesses may work on a basis of reviewing all types of risk assessments annually. In lots of cases unless there’s been any incidents or significant changes, review every 2 – 3 years may be reasonably practicable.

One consideration should be has any maintenance work been carried out, may be simple tasks such as additional data cabling since the last FRA. If holes have been drilled through walls are all compartments within the building still suitably protected from spread of fire or smoke.
